  5. leader stirred up last November's elections with impassioned
  6. attacks on the Canada-U.S. Free Trade Agreement, but failed to
  7. sweep Progressive Conservative Prime Minister Brian Mulroney out
  8. of office. Last week, conceding the need for "fresh leadership,"
  9. Turner said he would resign after a date is set to choose a
  10. successor. Likeliest prospect: Quebec's Jean Chretien, a former
  11. Justice and Finance minister.
